This Turkish domestic lightweight cotton cloth was possibly originally intended for a quilt or even a shawl. Kandili is an Asian suburb of Istanbul that formally had a significant Greek population where cotton printing went on and by which term these prints are popularly known. The other larger centre of woodblock printing being Tokat close to Izmir in Western Turkey.

The textile is unlined.
