This hand-loomed cotton cloth is is hand wood block printed. The intended use may have originally been for a yorgancı (quilt maker).
Soma lies some 200km north east of Izmir where these rough block prints were produced mostly for cotton down filled bedquilts. This narrow hand-loomed fragment depicts a jardiniere with flowers and would have originally consisted of multiple joined strips.
The peice has an insciption in Arabic script, which presumably is dated prior to 1923, if the script were expressed as Turkish - as yet unread.
In sound condition - seems unused for original purpose.
