Kurdish Herki 'kelleigh' long carpet from N. Iraq • circa 1900 (495 x 233cm)

495 x 233cm / 16ft3" x 7ft8"
Such Kurdish rugs from Northern Iraq were probably never intended for the bazaar and commerce as demonstrated here in the unusually large example having been made on a domestic narrow loom. They are typically of course but nevertheless robust by nature and easily recognised. Such carpets were hardly known in the west until comparative recent times.
