The Herki populations of Kurdish peoples formally migrated from Northern Iraq to Eastern Turkey whose products were rarely seen in bazaar commerce. The unusually large example having been made on a domestic narrow loom rather than a workshop. They are typically course but nevertheless robust with excellent lustrous wool band thus rather distinctive. Such carpets were hardly known in the West until comparative recent times.
