Tibetan antique saddle cover (130 x 72cm)

£ 600.00

130 x 72 cm // 4ft 4" x 2ft 4"

This saddle cover is not a Chinese made piece for export to Tibet but finely done in the original Tibetan manner of pile stucture by slicing the loops of the knots from a pole. The saddle cover has its original felted wool surround and the cotton backing appears orignial being discoloured. The red felted wool is likely an English import sometimes known as ' Broadcloth ' in former times and typically produced in Stroud Gloucestershire and West Yorkshire given there was little use for such material in the heat of India.
