In Turkmen culture 'Ensi' rugs served as a door entrance covering for the yurt felt tent marked by its directional design. Not for  every day purpose so the rug would have been brought out for some special occasion e.g. betrothal or special guest. After Soviet and English contact these became made commercially for the bazaar in increased sizes. Our authentic example here comes from an earlier period and was intended for its original purpose.

Found in a poor and ragged condition the rug has had a plan of conservation and is now offered patched supported and in a stable condion. ( AF )
