Such Kurdish rugs from Northern Iraq were probably never intended for bazaar commerce. The unusually large example having been made on a domestic narrow loom rather than a workshop. They are typically course but nevertheless robust with excellent lustrous wool band thus rather distintive. Such carpets were hardly known in the west until comparative recent times.
