J.M. Pontremoli (1888-1952) established his workshop in 1910 and maintained a fashionable salon/studio in Paddington where pre WWII where Society Ladies and Debs would come and practice needlework. Until recently the premises was maintained as a tapestry conservation workshop.
The old Queen Mother (Mother of Elizabeth II and previously widowed to King George VI), awarded Pontremoli a Royal Warrant and his needlepoint rugs are still to be found in the Royal Household. Other patrons include: The late Queen Elizabeth II, H.R.H. The Duke of Kent etc.
The small rug has very recently been professionally relined / backed
