This magnificent ikat is in the very best Bukharan tradition pre Moscovite conquest. The hanging ( it was never a robe ) consists of 4 complete and 2 part panels running the length of the textile. In order to conserver the piece it had been quilted later. The backing which appears to be original is a most attractive hand block printed cotton on indigo possibly by resident Indian craftsman. It appears to have been used on a table accounting for the better condition to the centre. Other panels having been removed previously since it was once almost certainly made into a circle from its original oblong proportion.
