This hand block printed lightweight domestic cotton cloth might have once been a headcoth or bohçe (etmek) for wrapping a present or simply keeping bread.

Kandili is an Asian suburb of Istanbul, which formally had a significant Greek population where cotton printing went on and by which term these prints are popularly known. The other larger centre of woodblock printing being Tokat close to Izmir in Western Turkey.
