This large rug is likely from the North country. The expressions Hooky / Proddy refers to the techniques of either pulling or pushing through strips of woven fabric ( i.e. rags ) through the supporting foundation. The interconnecting maple leaf design is possibly inspired by the Dutch artist Escher . The rug is signed in two corners by what looks initials resembling British Registry Design Number or more likely the initials of the two crafts persons that made it
The backing cloth has been recently re-done to support the structure.
