Caucasian Karabagh with ferenghi design • late 19th cent

 270 x 124cm / 8ft x 4ft
Known in Farsi as 'Ferenghi' (foreign) the design of this rug was based on European baroque and cheap imported flora; cotton prints. Somewhat typical of the era as Caucasian communities catered to the taste of serving occupying Russian officers.
Condition: The rug has lost borders and it is uncertain that this may have once been a long runner
