Caucasian Karabagh with ferenghi design • (270 x 124cm)
270 x 124cm / 8ft x 4ft
late 19th cent
Known in Farsi as 'Ferenghi' (foreign) the design of this rug was based on European baroque and imported floral Manchester cotton prints. Somewhat typical of the era as Caucasian communities catered to the taste of serving occupying Romonov officers.
Condition: The rug has lost borders and it is uncertain that this may have once been a long runner
