Indian Punjab fulkari phulkari shawl (264 x 134cm)

£ 90.00

264 x 134cm // 8'8" x 4'4"

Reputedly these marriage shawls were made by Hindu tenants for their Muslim overlords in Western Punjab and ceased to be made post partition 1947. The base madder red colour ground cloth is hand-loomed and the cotton yarn hand-spun . The silk embroidery has suffered from friction and become rubbed due to the laid technique which hand-spun or unthrown to accentuate a high gloss displaying the maximum silk surface  . Substantially the entire fabric remains intact and perfectly usable but sold as seen.
