Pink silk embroidery depicting a classic scene of a craggy tree surmounting a rocky base. This design was popularised in 18th century with Indian chintz and Chinese export textiles then immortalised with Genovese Mezzaro prints in 19th century.
There are losses from friction to the embroidery. Some of the Oriental pink satin silk lining remains around the edges with the larger part replaced by a crepe vintage silk in a tan colour to match the facing sheer ground silk. The fringing is an addition probably put on when it was relined.
Originally the piece likely served as a bed coverlet rather than a wall hanging
