English antique Axminster or Exeter rug (196 x 89cm)

This small rug may have formed part of a set of carpets, this serving the hearthside position.

What appears as a decorative flounce in the centre of the rug may be an armorial initial capital W 

Made prior to the Axminster factory closing in 1835 by S R Whitty.
