102 x 60 cm // 6ft 4" x 2ft.
The construction would appear Persian using depressed symmetrical knotting with what appears handspun Z ply S spun wool warp and cotton wefts but with a single possible aniline mauvine dye colour similar to that developed by Perkins which may give us the date as late as the 1860s. That or a poorly performing new world import dye. It is possible the client either European or Muscovite commissioned this beautiful but as yet unrecognised carpet to chime with or copy the taste of a Verdure Tapestry. Another conjecture is that this may have been the product of aristocratic estate in East Ukraine by a Tabriz master.
