The delicate work appears done in some semi automated machine stitch - presumably guided by hand given the charming irregularities. These types of French covers or curtains are found used in Moroccan items of the period where they were used by embellishing with bright silk embroidery and so the basic material as here could easily be mistaken for Moroccan
There is some uneven colouring. The object has been lined by us recently with a sympathetic muslin type material and is thus in good order.
