Syrian late Ottoman Aba / Abeya silk (224 x 101cm)

£ 360.00

224 x 101 cm  //  7ft 4" x 3ft 4"

This is possibly a one part of a traditional garment from Syria called an Abba or Abeya which can be made of two joined pieces although the tasseled ends might suggest otherwise. The hand woven fabric is in shades of pink and silver/gold and is in good general condition being supple and weighty although not stiff as these silks can tend to be.

•early 20th cent.
