43 x 38 cm

A fragment from a Turkish domestic lightweight cotton cloth was possibly originally used as a Bokçe wrapping cloth or headscarf.

Kandili is an Asian suburb of Istanbul which formally had a significant Greek population where cotton printing went on and by which these prints are popularly known. The other larger centre of woodblock printing being Tokat close to Izmir in Western Turkey, this being the more probable attribution.
