Turkish indigo resist and block printed shawl (174 x 123cm)

Stylistically this lovely indigo lightweight cotton shawl is very much in the manner of a Kashmir shawl with its boteh (Paisley) ends. The shawl was wood block printed and using a resist technique possibly in Tokat or Soma in Western Turkey.

We have carefully conserved this old shawl and it is now in ready to wear condition, however patches from the same material have been used from the spare parts left after reducing the length.
