This antique quilt is dyed using the famous Turkey Red method of making a fast dye in a protracted method thought to have originated in India and finding its way to the West via Adrianople (Edirne) Turkey. This dyeing method was known to be employed very extensively in Paisley Glasgow, hence the name of the ubiquitous 'boteh' pattern, which became familiar via Kashmir shawls and widespread in general use during the latter Victorian era.
The quilting is lightweight as if for summer
