This high quality rug was made in the transition period when synthetic dyes were starting to become more commonly used, with the introduction of anthraquinone-based acid dyes from 1890. The orange being a primary example here and likely one or two other colours.
The blue cotton soumak wrapping at each has been retained and identifies the rug to the Kuba, Seychour region with its split level weaving, distinguishing it from those of neighbouring Shirvan / Shamakhi that have a flatter structure.
The rug is in as found condition and has various small bits of damage and breaks around the peripherally, which is reflected in the price. Both ends have been expertly stabilised with the addition of a hand-sewn fine tape, making this sweet little rug, fit for use.
