These ' crewel ' embroidered wool worked panels are done onto linen base and are both unlined They are not a pair although very evidently the work of the same hand. They differ from one another in that one is blueish and softer in general tone whilst the other in more reddish tones being rather more dynamic. Design details also differ. Taking after late Jacobean crewel bed curtains these are revival Edwardian embroideries which stemmed from the interest in the Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th cent .
One is dated with initials (?) 1909 in India ink to one corner.
NB Offered together as here the two or can be split and sold separately at £750 each . Should a single item be called for the buyer will need to be in touch with us to make a specially arranged sale ( via Contact page ) although as advertised here the pair can be taken to the basket in the usual way and sold as offered automatically online .
