This antique runner was once longer with additional outer borders which has now removed and shortened so technically a fragment . There is also a patch of the same other part of the runner now removed from that discarded part. Given the high quality and design arrangement from this famous weaving community it is a distinct possibility that it was once a part of a tricelenium audience suite of carpets for a khan / regional aristocrat. Such a set would have comprised of two very long narrow runners either side of a long carpet ( kelleigh ) and sometime surmounted by a more conventionally proportioned carpet reserved for the nobles retinue.
