This all silk stole replicates an earlier Kashmir shawl of the very late Mogul period. The Norwich production employed both silk and fine worsted worked with Jaquard looms, which employed a punched card organising method of weaving to produce the pattern - the method being perfected in 1805 France. Charles Babbage was a fan and the system inspired him to create his famous analytical machine, the first modern computer.
