A Kain Tapis or Rejang is a form of wrap around skirt from southern Sumatra. Our example is made out of two striped handloom cloths from a single strip cut down into two and joined to make a square and then embroidered incorporating glass mirrored pieces or mica. Also present is occasional strips of weft float design.
