The carpet has had two border areas patched inserted from another identical period carpet and is thus indistinguishable. Otherwise this classic Ushak carpet is in excellent condition. Carpets particularly large carpets produced in the historic Ushak area of Western Turkey have gone by generic title ‘Turkey carpet‘ since 16th century. The red variant carpets such as this example were produced in quantity from 1925 to 1940 earlier examples exhibit softer colours.
