This small weaving was almost certainly once the decorative front section of a large container bag which once had a plain weave back. Given the as new condition is is unlikely ever to have been used for a utilitarian purpose. Weavings from the Toros mountainous area south of the Central Anatolian plain are knowen as Mutt and the weft float technique used here is described in Turkish as zileh as found in Anatolia and the Caucasus.
