The white in this piece is in cotton amongst the wool causing the white to ping out. The design is influenced by the silk ikats which are made in the region and used for clothing etc. What is seen here is the face of the chuval ( bag ) formally it would have have had a woven plain-weave back and used to hang from the wall of the tent or yurt as a sort of portmanteau. Probably as a dowry tribute.
