This antique quilt is dyed using the famous Turkey Red method of making a fast dye in in a protracted method thought to have originated in India and finding its way to the West via Adrianople ( Edirne )Turkey hence the name. This dying method was known to be employed very extensively in Paisley Glasgow hence the name of the ubiquitous ' boteh ' pattern which became familiar via Kashmir shawls and become widespread in general use during the latter Victorian era.

The quilting is lightweight as if for summer
